 Best of San
Francisco Review:
For
those who truly know the inside of San
Francisco's atmosphere & past, there is no
other restaurant, or if you will, place, that
reflects history, mystery and downright ambiance
like John's Grill. The
Interior hasn't changed since Dashiell Hammett sat at the bar waiting
for his "chops, baked potato and sliced
tomato". Well, we assume he ate this
fare, as it is aptly described as Sam Spade's
choice in "The Maltese Falcon". (Check
out www.baseportal.com for some excellent info
on Hammett.) John's Grill is the place where
famous people from every walk of life, including
every police detective that ever worked in or
visited San Francisco, is headed. This is the
hangout of Pinkerton Detective's & Bridget
O'Shaunessy's, as they order steaks, pasta, Jack
Lalanne's Salad, the best 'prime' ground steak
hamburger in town, fresh seafood, rich desserts
and fine wine. Full bar with some very colorful,
historic mixed drinks that will knock your
proverbial socks off. John's Grill is a place of
mystery, gourmet food and jazz on a foggy night.
The service is right out of Sydney Greenstreet.
Ye gads, harumph, sir, verily sir. The dimly lit
mahogony walls are covered with the faces of all
the detectives and movie stars who entered the
famous doorway . . . . looking for Sam Spade, the
Maltese Falcon and a hearty meal. Reservations
recommended. Limited seating. Walk in bar.
