Suppenküche is a uniquely traditional
establishment in its decor and menu. Spare
natural wood furnishings on a natural wood and
cement floor are complimented by the high
ceilings in the strangely warm and inviting
interior. Their menu offers classic German dishes
for weekend breakfast, brunch/lunch and dinner,
with a humorous twist. Brunch offerings include
Kleines Frühstück - a small breakfast of German
rolls, cheese, one soft boiled egg, marmalade,
honey, nutella - to a large breakfast including
cold cuts, cheese and yogurt added. Müsli
breakfasts, Salmon breakfast, Farmer's b....well,
you get the picture. Roasted sausages and bacon
with potatoes and scrambled egg are also good.
Their sausage varieties are for true sausage
lovers, and are served with sauerkraut, marinated
braised beef, red cabbage and spätzel, and
grilled venison (seasonal) steak in red wine plum
sauce. For authenticity of atmosphere and food,
this is the best German restaurant in San
Francisco.
